      The Experimental Biological Clinic (vivarium) is a structural subdivision of the Institute of Physiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The vivarium is located in a detached 2-storey building. In 2014-2016 the building was completely reconstructed. Today the vivarium is equipped with modern equipment for animal care, produced in the European Union. Sanitary and hygienic conclusion on compliance with the requirements of sanitary rules and regulations 2.1.2.12-18-2006 “Design, equipment and maintenance of experimental-biological clinics (vivariums)” was obtained. Functional areas of the vivarium include quarantine block, rooms for breeding and keeping animals, operating room, X-ray room, experimental rooms, washing and sterilization block, engineering and technical rooms, sanitary pass system, storage rooms for fodder, bedding material and consumables, fodder kitchen, household rooms.


Principal activity::
  • breeding and maintenance of linear laboratory animals used in research, scientific production and educational activitiesThe vivarium capacity allows to keep the following types of laboratory animals: mice, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits (to order). Today the vivarium has 4 inbred lines of mice (BALB/c, C57BL/6, CBA, Af) and 1 outbred line of rats (Wistar), guinea pigs. Replenishment of the vivarium with laboratory animals is carried out from specialized kennels, for each batch of animals a veterinary certificate of infectious well-being is obtained. Mice (BALB/c, CBA, C57BL/6) and rats (Wistar) were purchased from the nursery “RAPPOLOVO” (Russia) in 2016, 2017 and 2019. Reproduction of the Af mouse line, obtained from the nursery of the Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology (Moscow), has been maintained at the Institute of Physiology since 1962.In 2017, guinea pigs were purchased.The Institute of Physiology has a Bioethics Commission, which carries out expertise and control over compliance with the norms of humane treatment of laboratory animals in accordance with national and international quality standards for the planning and conduct of animal research. The Vivarium can provide laboratory animals (rats, mice, guinea pigs) for research purposes, as well as premises for research and testing to organizations and enterprises.
